The SGU chapter of the Gold Humanism Honor Society, in conjunction with Dr. Stephen Weitzman, Dean of the School of Medicine, has created SGU Gold, a narrative medicine journal. Though publication in the journal is intended to be a resource for SGU students in support of their efforts to obtain residency positions, alumni, faculty, and USS staff are encouraged to contribute as well.

The primary objective of ‘SGU Gold' is to empower SGU students to reflect on their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in the context of practicing medicine. This not only enhances their emotional intelligence and spiritual well-being. It amplifies their ability to compassionately connect with patients and thereby become better physicians. Indeed, the underlying themes of narrative medicine have become increasingly significant factors in distinguishing an adequate physician from an excellent one.

If you would like to submit your writing to SGU Gold, please email it to us at sgugold@sgu.edu. Submissions should be no more than 1000 words but longer selections will be considered. For poetry, multiple submissions are acceptable within reason (2-3 is fine, 10-20 is not). Feel free to tell us a little about yourself and your selection. Submissions must be Word-compatible documents.

Please contact us at the email address above if you have any questions or suggestions regarding SGU Gold.
